Afterglow

Afterglow is a pop label in Stockholm, built on a single unfashionable idea: the biggest songs are the saddest ones dressed as parties.

It was started in 2021 by Elin Kastrup, who had spent her twenties playing keys and singing backing vocals in other people's pop projects — close enough to the machine to learn exactly how a hit is made, far enough back to watch which ones actually moved a room. The ones that lasted were never the happiest. They were the ones that let you feel two things at once: joy with a hairline crack in it. She started the label to make those on purpose.

The name is the feeling she was chasing — not the party, the moment after it. The taxi queue at 3am, the ears still ringing, the ache of a good night ending. Every record here is aimed at that.

Afterglow works the way Stockholm has always worked — sessions, co-writes, choruses edited until they sing — but toward feeling rather than efficiency. The productions are lush and the choruses are built for a room of thousands, and underneath every one of them is a lyric that hurts. The label is unembarrassed about scale: it thinks writing a chorus that many people can sing is difficult and worth doing beautifully, and it thinks "commercial" was never the insult people meant it as. It signs voices — big instruments with the discipline to hold back — and then keeps them from being over-produced.

The rule is simple. If a song is only happy, it isn't finished.
