SOCKERBETT

SOCKERBETT are Liv Arvidsson, Maja Lind, Nora Ek, and Tilde Sjöberg: four Swedish musicians who make sugar-rush pop-rock with trapdoor time signatures. Their songs arrive as immaculate group hooks, then let a guitar figure or missing beat pull the floor sideways. The sweetness is deliberate. So are the teeth.

The band formed in a Stockholm rehearsal room in 2022, when Liv accidentally booked a session already occupied by Maja and Tilde and sang a four-beat melody over the crooked riff they were trying to finish. Nora came to retrieve a borrowed bass, changed one line, and never really left. Fluorescent practice rooms became tiny bills and pink-camcorder clips; the clips travelled because the quartet could turn a technical rhythmic ambush into something a room shouted back on first listen.

Afterglow signed them after a showcase that ended with the band eating its own untouched celebration cake in a loading bay. Their debut EP, Bite the Cake, keeps the crumbs. Across six songs, SOCKERBETT move from being presented as decoration to discovering the louder pleasure of acting like a unit: bright choruses, physical drums, needling guitars, and four voices becoming one only when the lyric has earned it.

They call the music cute because it is. They call it nasty because somebody always assumes those are opposites.
